Francis Antonie is a graduate of Wits University, Leicester and Exeter Universities. He was awarded the Helen Suzman Chevening Fellowship by the UK foreign Office in 1994. From 1996 to 2006 he was Senior Economist at Standard Bank; thereafter he was Director of the Wits School of Governance at Wits University. He is the founding Managing Director of Strauss & Co.
Rob Hewitt is a Chartered Accountant and joined the Helen Suzman Foundation after retirement having held senior Financial Management positions in the Barlows Group, Foster Wheeler and Independent Newspapers.
Roshan Arnold has worked at various educational institutions in Administration roles. For the past 11 and a half years she was the Personnel Administrator at the Wits School of Governance at Wits University.
Dr Charles Simkins
Charles Simkins is a distinguished Economist. He was Vice President and Professor of Economics at St Augustine College and formerly held the Helen Suzman Chair of Political Economy at Wits University. He is a former Rhodes Scholar and is a recipient of the Helen Suzman Chevening Fellowship, a UK Foreign Office award.
Anele Mtwesi is the Project Manager for the Helen Suzman Foundation's Youth Project. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Accounting Science at UNISA. Her great interests are Economics and Social Development.
Charles has a Bachelor of Social Science degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from the University of Cape Town. He also passed all three levels of the Chartered Financial Analyst exams while working in the financial markets as stockbroker and researcher from 2006 to 2016. His particular area of interest is economic development..
Kimera holds an LLB from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and a post-graduate diploma in Drafting and Interpretion of Contracts from the University of Johannesburg. She completed her articles of clerkship at a corporate and commercial litigation firm in Durban, before joining the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Department of Human Settlements in the Contracts and Land Legal Administration directorate. Outside of her professional life, she has ten years of experience in the sport of competitive debate as a speaker, adjudicator and coach.
Recently graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) from the St. Augustine Catholic University, South Africa. Holds a Postgraduate Diploma (Honours) in Law (Conciliation/Arbitration) from the University of Zimbabwe; a Higher National Diploma in Marketing and Public Relations (HEXCO); National Diploma in Labour Relations (IPMZ) and Postgraduate Certificates in - Education (FETC) from Zimbabwe, and in Theology (JIST/TEEC) in South Africa. For the past 10 years he has worked for a Trade Union for Commerce in Zimbabwe as an Educator and Legal Officer. Currently studying for a Master’s of Law (Labour and Human Rights).
Rafael holds a Bachelor of Arts in Law and International Relations as well as an Honours degree in International Relations. Both from the University of the Witwatersrand. His final dissertation focussed on trade protection in the steel industry and his main interests are economic development and global governance.
Anton van Dalsen
Anton van Dalsen has extensive experience in the funding of the resources sector in South Africa and elsewhere in Africa, including 20 years at Investec Bank in this field. After graduating with a BA (University of Pretoria) and a LLB (University of Stellenbosch), his initial work experience was in law and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
