The Helen Suzman Foundation in partnership with Constitution Hill launched the Helen Suzman Exhibition – Fighter for Human Rights yesterday evening, 7 November at the Women’s Gaol, Constitution Hill.
It was a joyous evening, celebrating Helen’s life and work, as well as the anniversary of her birth.
Dr Mamphela Ramphele opened the exhibition with a reminder and a challenge. She spoke about the importance of remembering Helen Suzman as a fierce fighter for human rights and challenged us to reflect on our democracy and what it will take to consolidate it. She said the best way we can honour Helen Suzman is to make sure that her dream of a democratic South Africa thrives and prospers today.
