Press Release: HSF Launches An Urgent Review Of The Decision By The National Commissioner To Release Mr. Zuma On Medical Parole

The Helen Suzman Foundation Has Launched An Urgent Application Seeking To Review And Set Aside The National Commissioner’s Decision To Place The Former President On Medical Parole. To Facilitate The Review, The HSF Has Asked The Court To Order The National Commissioner To Urgently Provide The Record Of And The Reasons For His Decision.

The HSF wrote to the National Commissioner of the Correctional Services, Mr. Arthur Fraser, to request the record of and the reasons for his decision to place Mr. Zuma, the former President of the Republic, on medical parole. The National Commissioner did not respond to the HSF’s request by 13 September 2021 – the deadline set for response.

The HSF has accordingly launched an urgent application before the Gauteng North High Court seeking the record of and the reasons for the National Commissioner’s decision to place Mr. Zuma on medical parole. This is to facilitate the relief sought in Part B of the HSF’s application – the review and setting aside of the National Commissioner’s decision as well as an order substituting the decision with a decision refusing Mr. Zuma’s application for medical parole.

The HSF’s application can be found here.
