Press Release: Ntlemeza Application Dismissed

In a ruling today, the  Supreme Court of Appeal has rejected Lieutenant-General Berning Ntlemeza’s appeal to be reinstated as the head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (the Hawks) while his application for leave to appeal is considered. Ntlemeza had appealed against the North Gauteng High Court’s decision which found that his appointment was unlawful in that he was unfit to hold any public office.

Additionally, the Supreme Court of Appeal has ordered that Lieutenant-General Ntlemeza pay the costs of the case in his personal capacity. The Helen Suzman Foundation, which with Freedom Under Law had bought the initial case against Lieutenant-General Ntlemeza and the Minister of Police, welcomes this decision.
